Now more than even you must master your time management skills. In college, if you over slept, you just missed a class and were able to copy someone’s notes; if you miss work, you can be fired. It is YOUR world now and there are not as many safety nets. There are not many extensions on projects and classes that you are just able to show up to and get an A; now every minute counts and priorities are harder to determine. You will need to develop great prioritization skills and be able to multi-task at a moment’s notice.
Prioritization Skills Tips:
- Determine high and low priority items on your to-do list: Do the high priority first, then delegate the lower priority items if you are able.
- Master efficiency: Good time management requires complete task efficiently; wasting time is not an option.
- Don’t procrastinate: Do not wait until the last minute to complete the task; get it done as soon as possible.
- Exhibit flexibility: There will be the unexpected events that come up; be flexible with your to-do list.
- Master the art of perspective: It is very easy to get caught up in the moment and see things as bigger than they really are; take a step back and re-evaluate.
