Alumnae Involvement

Connecting is Easy

In the classroom, at the office, or taking a break at the neighborhood coffee shop, today's Phi Mu is connected. Each day as we surf the Web on our laptops, download music to our iPods® or check e-mails on our BlackBerrys®, we use technology to access and deliver information.

From the first color issue of The Aglaia in 1977, to the most recent introductions of Bloom, Dashboard, and GIN, Phi Mu works to deliver cutting edge technology that is easy to use, readily available and cost effective. So the questions become: what is available, who has access, where can I locate it and how do I use it?

One of the lifelong benefits to membership in Phi Mu is the friendship forged during the collegiate years. But once graduation day arrives and life moves on, Phi Mu grows to incorporate sisters worldwide. How many times has carpool duty been shared with a neighborhood mom only to later learn that she is a Phi Mu? And how advantageous is it to arrive at a job interview and discover that the person conducting the interview is a Phi Mu?

Running into other Phi Mus is fun and sometimes beneficial, but why leave these meetings to chance when there is Bloom? Bloom is a Phi Mu only Web site, where every Phi Mu - whether alumna and collegian - can bond with current sisters, find alumnae in her area, and discover an entire world of networking. Bloom offers more than social and professional networking; it provides news from the Headquarters and access to tools like reference forms and chapter reports.

For chapter presidents, advisers, or officers, after creating an account on Bloom, the next step is to sign upon Dashboard. Phi Mu Dashboard is a new resource for chapters and officers which displays all chapter information in one central location such as the chapter’s roster, advisory council, reports, financial information, CTE scores and recruitment information. It provides a snapshot of data about chapters as maintained by Headquarters. The data on Dashboard is “live,” meaning it reflects what is currently on record with Headquarters. The chapter president and chapter adviser are the only officers who have the capability to make changes to the information other than the collegiate relations coordinator; however, all chapter officers are able to view Dashboard.

Now that alumnae and collegians have signed up on Bloom and chapter officers are on Dashboard, it’s time create chapter specific websites. The Group Interactive System or GIN, provides both alumnae and collegiate chapters the tools to create their own website. A chapter website reflects positively on a chapter, can be used to promote activities, and serve as a public relations tool between chapters, with potential members, with parents and with the general public. Creating a Web site does not require previous website design experience. The process is template driven, so text, pictures, and pages can be easily edited and updated without a Webmaster or computer skills. Each GIN Web site has a members-only area where each member uses her secure username and password for access. A chapter can use GIN to keep track of phone and e-mail lists, post online announcements, create chapter calendars and share files with others.

Cutting edge technology is now available to all Phi Mus. Sign up today and get connected.
