Networking

Networking is a term that has been used very loosely in the last decade, so what does it really mean?  According to Webster’s New World Dictionary, networking is a “group system of interconnected or cooperating individuals,” while in regards to careers, networking is who you know.  The end result of successful networking can be significant career growth.  Many experts believe networking to be a major contributor to career growth.  Your network could be comprised of almost anyone, even people you have never met.

There are 6 major rules of networking:
  1. Include everyone you know on your network
  2. Be willing to ask for help
  3. Be willing to give help
  4. Do not use your network only for job hunting
  5. Keep in touch with your network contacts
  6. Thank your contacts for their help
